Marlborough V BAC 08/01/22 Score 3-3
BAC got up for our earliest start of the season so far. With the car heating turned up and our raincoats at the ready, BAC headed to Marlborough for a re-arranged league fixture from last year.
The game started positively with BAC holding firm despite some early pressure from Marlborough and early chances for both teams should have seen the ball in the back of the net.
Marlborough were awarded with a goal after a quick break up the pitch and another break in play saw Marlborough gain the lead again, 2-0.
BAC however didn’t give up and some brilliant attacking play kept pressing Marlborough up the pitch. The last ten minutes of the first half saw some beautiful passing across the pitch from BAC who were dominating the game and this cracking period of play saw our pressure pay off.
A superb tackle from Kingers on the edge of the D, saw the ball stop dead and with a lifted pass through saw Tinny calmly slot the ball home, 2-1…game on!
With minutes left until the half time whistle, BAC were determined to hold strong and the end of the first half saw the most impressive, controlled press ever seen….it lasted nearly 3 minutes and saw the score at half time remain 2-1.
The second half began with both sides keen to score another goal. A well worked short corner by Marlborough looked like they were going to score but Sally ‘save the ball on the line’ Curnow (again, she might add!) was not having it. Unfortunately, despite BAC efforts to clear the ball, a very good finish from one of the Marlborough players fired the ball into the top of the net, 3-1.
BAC heads did not go down and they kept fighting, as well as some impressive acrobatic displays in defence with Sally jumping over Alaina after she’d stopped the ball and clearing the ball away, leaving Alaina wondering what just happened!! With Cheryl’s awesome support from the side-line, a break down the right from Liz saw her taking it round the Marlborough defence and a cross to Tinny who shot, the keeper saved but Sledger was in the right place ready for the rebound and scored…3-2!
With spirits lifted again, BAC kept pushing for a third goal and a pass from Sledger to Tinny who shot at goal, keeper saved and Kingers deflected in…3-3! Amazing scenes!! The crowd went wild!!
BAC stayed calm and worked really hard for the last few minutes of the game, Ceri even had to leave the pitch for a second, throw up, and quickly run back on still retching as she tried to stop another Marlborough attack…now that’s dedication for you!
A last-minute break which saw BAC at the top of the D, 3 players against one defender was cruelly ended with the final whistle from the Marlborough umpire…ahem…enough said…end of game.
Cracking performance by all, especially after the festive break, bring on next week’s game!!
