Winscombe 3 – BAC 5
The sun was shining the weather was sweEEEEeeeet…………made us want to move, our hockey feet!!
So with sun cream applied, Kat’s new astro’s admired and everyone nicely warmed (chuffing boiled) up, the whistle blew!!
Thing is BAC didn’t hear this we were busy enjoying the sunshine and generally chilling out, so Winscombe’s first goal came as quite the surprise to each and every one of us!!
Unfortunately BAC were still in a bit of shock and didn’t really see the second goal coming, despite some brave tackling from Bish, Maz and Chez. 2-0!
This was the wakeup call we needed to start actually playing hockey! Sledger, Bish and Kingers worked up through the middle with some quick sharp passing, then with a great ball in from Lor, Captain Kingers smacked in our first goal! 2-1
Now my mind is a bit foggy on some of the following details as I was melting…..the goals may have happened in a different order, but this is what I remember!
I think somehow Winscombe got a short corner and scored from it! 3-1
With a great run and pass from Sledger, our Miami Vice Tinny decided enough was enough and took the ball into the D wound up, struck and BOOM! 3-2
BAC kept fighting, at some points quite literally, as Winscombe were a little ‘physical’ to say the least – which saw Kingers, Chez and Tinny all being rugby tackled at some point, this didn’t deter us we didn’t give up, we kept battling away and saw our midfield and defence being put through their paces!! Cheryl was ‘awarded’ a green card for asking a question politely – this is genuine, not my usual saucy undertone!! Dodging high flying sticks and balls, BAC kept going and with some great play between Maz, Kat and Sally we were awarded some long corners and eventually a short corner this saw Lor slot home our third! 3-3
Half time finally came and we were all sweaty, red faced and a bit tired!! Captain Kingers and Vice Tinny told us to stay calm and keep talking and not give up…oh and woolly Pully decided to turn up!!
Second half saw BAC come out strong from the off, with some great attacking play and moving up the pitch as a unit, Bish and Sledger proving they are a match made in heaven kept driving the ball forward and saw all three forwards have chances on goal. Kat and Maz worked well in triangles up the left, the good paid off we were eventually awarded a short corner after I was tackled by several players at once!!
A slip from Tinny to Kingers was kicked out from the goalie to Tapper who slammed it home for our fourth! 4-3
Winscombe put the pressure on and kept coming at us, but with Woolly Pulley, Chez and Maz in defence they had no chance!! Kay made some good saves to keep an equalising goal at bay, with the temperature still high BAC were feeling it, but with great support and calling from Leanne and Coxy on the side line kept on going!!
Myself and Tinny went on a little run together, not what we needed in the heat, but it annoyed the Winscombe defenders, to the point they tackled Tinny in such a way I think Tinny span around. Short corner awarded, but it slipped off the back line.
In a desperate attempt of some air and fluid I tried to sub myself off and Lor back on…..however Lor said ‘stay on for a bit as you may get a goal’ well turns out she was right, with some great work from our defenders the ball was passed out to Sledger, who ran almost the length of the pitch and crossed the ball to me, who, and I don’t like to brag, caught it a peach and in it went! 5-4. Lor is claiming an assist for this.
BAC continued the pressure and despite a late short corner being given to Winscombe, we batted it off like a fly, the final whistle blew and we all passed out!!!!
Winscombe could have been fooled into thinking a different team had turned up to play the second half, but what happened was a lesson in the old fable the Tortoise and the Hare.
