Blockley 5 – 4 BAC

It was another ridiculously early start for the BAC 1s this week but, after the great result the previous week, spirits were high.

We arrived at the school, finally worked out which car park (or, in some cases, not a car park) to park in and started our new warm up. We started the game nervously and a few manic minutes of unstructured hockey followed from both teams before BAC found their groove. The next 10/15 minutes were a repeat of the Leo game; quick passes, good communications and clinical finishing. After the ball was worked up the right by Liz, WP and Bish, the ball made its way to Tinny at the top of the D and she smashed it in for the first goal.

A few minutes later, Liz took a free hit on the right side and passed it to WP who swept it in to Tinny. Tinny took a touch, swivelled and smashed the ball into the bottom left of the goal. It hadn’t been entirely one sided though as Blockley had also shown their strength on the break but had been well marshalled by Dave, Cheryl and Becky.

Things were looking good and then bizarrely it all went Pete Tong. Blockley scored two goals to draw level and the score remained 2-2 as the second half began.

Blockley began to dominate at the start of the second half and they scored two quick goals to make it 4-2. BAC were not going to give up and continued to push for more goals. After a particularly prolonged period of defending, Sarah, Dave and Sledger worked well together to get BAC up the pitch and attacking again.

Some determined tackling from Tinny and some great work by Liz and Rachel on the right resulted in a peach of the ball going across from the right for Sally to sweep into the goal to make it 4-3.

Blockley carried on pushing at the other end but some great defending from Dave, Cheryl and Sarah prevented them scoring more. BAC then had a series of short corners and were unlucky not to equalise. After one short, Blockley broke quickly and one of their forwards scored an impressive solo goal to make it 5-3.

BAC were not done yet though and they won another short corner. Tinny’s strike was deflected by the keeper but it still had plenty of pace and WP was on hand to deflect it into goal.

The final score was 5-4; it was disappointing to lose but the new formation continues to bring with it a lot of goals and great link up play. BAC will come back stronger next week and continue the great progress using the new formation.
