Blockley 1 – BAC 3 (01/02/14)
Written by: Sally ‘MOTM winner 18/01/14’ Curnow
This match report is dedicated to Bish, her last game of the season and her flip flop.
It was an early start for us this week, with us all having to be up at sparrows for the long(ish) journey to Evesham, fortunately for the South Bristol girls Maz’s car has auto pilot, which enabled her to make some tea and coffee whilst Woolly Pulley dished out the pastries making the experience of being awake before anyone else in Bristol all the more bearable.
Anyway, we all got there safe and sound despite some sat nav issues, road closures a sick goal keeper! After a really rather windy warm up the game commenced….
All of the play in the first half was in the Blockley D, with BAC piling on the pressure continually, there were some great mid field runs from Bish, Sledger and Marie who continually fed the ball into the Tinny and Lisa in the D, but we were keeping the excitement alive by not scoring any goals and instead putting all the effort dodging some pretty awesome stick tackles, body blows and the ball screaming past our heads!! When Blockley did break, our stand in keeper Kay made some pretty darn awesome flying saves keeping them out of the game. However thanks to Woolly Pulley tackling, by this I mean, attacking savagely a Blockley player they were awarded a short corner, from which they scored a screamer of a goal. 1-0.
BAC kept their heads up (apart from when dodging the hockey ball) and continually added pressure on the Blockley defence. BAC defence were constantly picking up any loose balls from any Blockley free hit, much to the annoyance of Blockley, Maz seemed to be the receiver of all of Blockley’s 16 hit outs. Tinny made some cracking runs into the D, but Blockley’s defence knocked her shots wide, Sally, Lisa, Bish and Sledger also made some runs into the D but nothing was coming of it. That was until one run from Liz saw the ball to Tinny who shot, and was denied so Liz tried and was denied, then Sally tried, but was denied, so Tinny tried again, this time the ball was stopped by a defender’s foot. Penalty to BAC, after a big decision who was going to take this (by this I mean we all ran away leaving Tinny to take it) Tinny stepped up to the plate (this was after having to find the missing ball) silence ensued and Tinny stepping in and flicking the ball powerfully to keepers left!! 1-1
At this point Bish wanted to bring the attention back on to her, so apparently elbowed a Blockley player then kicked the ball away, which was news to everyone standing around her, but the umpire decided that she needed a good telling off, so yellow carded her….YELLOW, as you can imagine this wasn’t take well by Bish, Ceri our super sub, tried to calm her down, but was later found cowering in the dugout.
The half time whistle finally blew!
We came out in the second half ready for action and determined to take the 3 points home, the pressure was still being piled on, with some good use of triangles on the left with Maz, Marie and Sally and some great defence work between Katie and Cheryl and Ceri out on the right midfield. Maz decided she wanted to try all positions and went for a run round the pitch at points finding herself right forward! After some great play from Lisa and Tinny in the D, we were awarded (finally) a short corner with a cracking hit out from Bish to Tinny, saw Tinny strike it and BOOM goal time!! 1-2!
Blockley had another break and crashed their way through our defence to take an almighty strike on goal, which was saved by Kay (quote from our umpire ‘will you be thanking your goalie for the save of the century) so superbly and so calmly that Blockley just stood and stared!
We then decided we wanted another one, so with a pass out from defence to Bish who drove (not literally, she would get carded for that) up through and with a cracking pass to Tinny who ran around the defender, took a shot and BANG hatrick! 3-1
With some more cracking moves from our defence and Kay keeping all goals out this is how the match ended. A well fought and deserved 3 points to take home! We kept our heads and we wanted it, let’s take that same attitude into next week’s clash with Jaspers!
Showers were eventful this week, with Woolly Pulley being sad that Sledger wouldn’t share a shower with her, Bish lost a flip flop, Ceri lost her bra, Maz wanted two in one shower and chanted so and some Blockley girls came in covered in soup and made us all gag. Myself and Liz forgot to call each other the night before and ended up dressed in the same outfit #twins.
