Weston-Super-Mare 1 BAC 8
With our buckets and spades packed we were off to Weston-Super-Mare. We were all so committed and keen we arrived at the super early time of 10:42!! After a nice leisurely change into our kits we were all out on to the pitch warming up and raring to go, even Becky. Weston however were not, at the other end of the pitch where they should have been was nothing but tumbleweed. They did eventually come out of hiding and we started the match, and what a start it was.
BAC came out fast from the blocks and piled on the pressure which led to Tinny getting the ball in the D and smashing it in the goal 0-1.
Shortly after this with some slick work from Ceri, Sledger and Bish in midfield the ball was passed into Tinny who struck it in again 0-2.
BAC continued to play brilliantly there was some great passing play, we kept our shape beautifully and we worked well and hard down the line. With some brilliantly sharp play from Lisa (who was debuting in defence, is there nothing she can’t do?), Ceri, Lor and Tinny saw Tinny slam home her hatrick 0-3
Maz, Liz and Sally proved that listening to Doug does in fact help us and worked in tune with each other using the famous triangles and knowing where you are going after a pass. FAB U LOUS.
Meanwhile, Sledger lived up to her name and sledge hammered a WSM player and got herself a green card (they say the quiet ones are the worst).
WSM did break and came into our D, their leggy forward was no match for our not so leggy Becky who did a slow motion dive and saved the shot. Sledger said ‘that looked like it was s HD save’ This also pleased Becky’s mum and dad who had come to support us.
Just before half time Tinny decided she wanted more, and intercepted a back pass from WSM and slammed in her fourth! 0-4
After a very positive half time team talk we were off again starting the second half as we finished the first. We were awarded a short corner thanks to some crafty play by Lor. The hit out to Tinny was slammed into the left side of the goal where Lor poked it in 0-5.
It was at this point that Ceri thought she would test the blood pressure of the entire team, supporters and the seagull flying over us by making a pass across our open goal in the path of an oncoming WSM forward, fortunately Cheryl ‘s heart hadn’t stopped and she managed to clear it away! Phew. However from a free hit WSM piled into our D and as Becky couldn’t keep her legs shut WSM sneaked one back! 1-5
BAC kept fighting, despite the very muggy airless conditions, piling on more pressure and showing off our set plays in defence, midfield and up front. This paid off and we were awarded with a short corner, which with a great hit out from Maz to Sally who panicked and passed it to the keeper, who played nice and passed it to Bish who fired it home. 1-6
A few random things then happened, Sledger knocked over the WSM sweeper, Lisa literally passed up the line to Lor seeing the ball travel perfectly along the line is a first for many of us. I fell over a lot, Lor to a shot at the keeper who slapped it away with her palm and Liz ran around a lot and tried her hardest to get a goal.
Then we decided 6 wasn’t enough, so Sledger, Liz and Maz worked togeather passing forward, Maz passed into the D and Lor slammed the ball in the net 1-7.
In the last seconds of the game Lisa passed a cracking ball into Tinny who took the ball into the D and struck it home BOOM 1-8.
BAC spirit at its finest. A truly super day was had, WSM were fab. A friendly match that was actually friendly is a rarity. Them giving us hot pork rolls and cider was the cherry on the already iced cake.
Thanks Weston.
